Wine Off The Vine

Wine Off The Vine

For as long as we can remember, wine has been one of Geneva’s most important industries. From its picturesque mountainside vineyards to the light, delicious samples offered at local wineries, to the festivals, Geneva is simply brimming with opportunities to learn about and appreciate local wines.

Ways to Wine

There are plenty of ways to get up close and personal with local wines. The most direct is, of course, to visit a winery! Independent, small, family-run wineries are al over the surrounding countryside just waiting for you to visit. Here’s a few just to give you some ideas. Call to make an appointment!

You can also take a walk through a beautiful vineyard for FREE, so we hope you packed your hiking boots! Such free walks include:

  • 1. Rive droite (right bank of the river Rhône) 26km, around 6 hours of walking
  • 2. Between the rivers Arve and Rhône) 26.5km, around 7 hours of walking
  • 3. Rive gauche (left bank of the river Rhône) Slightly shorter – 19km and about 4 to 5 hours of walking

Though, if you’d prefer a less time-consuming stroll, you can always take a shortcut! Here are a few quaint little parking areas near the mountainside, perfect for an afternoon break.

  • 1282 Dardagny
  • 1233 Bernex
  • 1254 Jussy

And of course, drink and be merry at one of many local wine bars!

  • Molard Tower on Place du Molard is a historic and beautiful sight, even without a buzz! Molard Tower was built in 1591 as a watchtower for the military, which explains its beautiful view of the harbor. Today, its function is a lot less utalitarian.
  • Lavinia, an expansive shop with 450 square meters of cellar and over 4000 different wines and spirits. This delightfully massive store provides all its wines to customers of its lavish companion restaurant.
  • Le Rouge et le Blanc combines an extensive wine menu of local vintages and varieties from abroad, accompanied by great food and stunning views of the lake.

Happy wining and dining, future tourist!
